David Bowie Announces 'Blackstar' Album
The Thin White Duke's next studio album ★ will arrive after the holidays.

Last month an abridged version of David Bowie‘s new song “Blackstar” made its debut atop the opening credits of British crime series The Last Panthers. Today the short film for the eerie tune premiered with a running time of 9 minutes and 59 seconds. And like The Last Panthers, the short film was directed by Johan Renck, who previously lensed such music videos as Madonna’s “Hung Up,” Robyn’s “Handle Me” and Lana Del Rey’s “Blue Velvet.”

What you’ll see above is an intense creep fest that involves what appears to be alien life, ancient bones and a strange cult of vibrating men and women intent on summoning up some life force or other. It’s all really up for interpretation what’s happening up there.

“Blackstar” is the title track from Bowie’s forthcoming studio album — technically stylized as — which is due out on January 8. The song hits iTunes tomorrow. All you vinyl nuts can check out a short video of what the die-cut LP will look like below.
