Panama Wedding & Great Good Fine OK Cover ’80s Classic “Easy Lover”: Idolator Premiere

Synth-pop outfit Panama Wedding team up with Great Good Fine OK for a shimmery cover of Philip Bailey and Phil Collins’ 1984 smash “Easy Lover.” How did the killer collab come about? “We’ve been friends for a while now and the thought of collaborating together on something was always there,” lead singer Peter Kirk explains. “When Luke Moellman and Jon Sandler [of Great Good Fine OK] hit me up about doing a cover of ‘Easy Lover,’ I knew it would be a perfect fit.”

“In a lot of ways its the perfect cover for us to do together, because Peter and Jon’s voices work really well singing Phil and Philip’s parts,” Luke tells Idolator. “I wanted to keep the drive and intensity of the original but put it in a more modern sonic context. The production ended up sounding like a French electro-house-meets-Dr. Luke spin on the original.” I couldn’t have described it better myself.

The cover is timely given the Genesis legend’s decision to get back in the studio. And Peter doesn’t think it’s a coincidence! “Literally the day after we finished basic vocal tracking, Phil Collins announced in the press that he was coming out of retirement,” he reveals. “I have no reason to believe that that there isn’t a connection somewhere out there. Welcome back Phil! We love you!” Panama Wedding are supporting their new EP Into Focus with a fall tour. See the dates and listen to “Easy Lover” below.
