Steve James Teams Up With Rising Vocalist Clairity For “Renaissance”

It’s been a huge year for Steve James. The 17-year-old producer made waves with a bunch of impressive remixes (Melanie Martinez’s “Soap” and The Chainsmokers’ “Let You Go”) and was then handpicked to work on Justin Bieber’s Purpose LP by Poo Bear. He ended up co-writing and co-producing the title track, which sets the tone for the whole album. The newcomer is hoping to now capitalize on that momentum by dropping his first original track in over a year.

Steve teams up with rising singer/songwriter Clairity, who was discovered by Pebe Sebert (ie. Kesha’s mom), on “Renaissance” — a trap/tropical wave hybrid with an usually exotic drop and surprisingly emotional lyrics. “I won’t let you haunt me, all the scars on my body,” the 18-year-old diva sings. “They won’t keep me far from love, you won’t see me fall apart.” Listen to the ruthlessly catchy (post) break-up anthem below.
