The loser in this game between One Direction and James Corden has to get a terrible tat.

If KIIS FM’s annual Jingle Ball at Los Angeles’ Staples Center is a snapshot of pop music right now, then its hitmakers are as wide-ranging as ever.

You had One Direction, this young adult group who was formed in a reality competition show, but whose Made in the A.M. single “Infinity” sounds like it was written decades prior. Fellow X Factor graduate Camila Cabello (of Fifth Harmony) was a featured guest, not to dance for the sake of girl power, but to join Vine-made superstar Shawn Mendes for their acoustic torch song “I Know What You Did Last Summer.”

Neither Selena Gomez nor Ellie Goulding  have sounded as independently-minded as they did while performing “Kill Em With Kindness” and “On My Mind,” respectively. And then there was The Weeknd, inspiring a sing-along as he sang the Fifty Shades of Grey waltz “Earned It” — as improbable as it still seems, the song that also dragged him out of the shadows to become a household name.

Watch these performances below.

Shawn Mendes and Camila Cabello, “I Know What You Did Last Summer”

Ellie Goulding, “On My Mind”

The Weeknd, “Earned It (Fifty Shades of Gray)”
