Golden Globe Nominations: Lady Gaga, Wiz Khalifa, Sam Smith, Max Martin Get Nods
Earlier in the year, there was speculation as to whether it would be Sam Smith or Ellie Goulding singing the James Bond theme song for Spectre. Doesn’t matter — they both recorded songs that snagged nominations for the forthcoming 73rd annual Golden Globe Awards, scheduled to be held at Los Angeles’ Beverly Hilton Hotel on January 10.
Smith’s “Writing’s On The Wall” from Spectre and Goulding’s Fifty Shades Of Grey hit “Love Me Like You Do” were recognized in the category for Best Original Song – Motion Picture (though actually it’s songwriters Max Martin, Savan Kotecha, Ali Payami and Ilya Salmanzadeh credited for the latter). Those tracks will go up against Wiz Khalifa and Charlie Puth‘s chart-topping Furious 7 smash “See You Again,” Brian Wilson‘s “One Kind Of Love” from Love & Mercy and David Lang‘s “Simple Song #3” from Youth.
Elsewhere, Lady Gaga scored a Best Performance By An Actress In A Limited Series Or Motion Picture Made For Television nomination for her creepy role on American Horror Story: Hotel. She faces tough competition from Kirsten Dunst (Fargo), Sarah Hay (Flesh & Bone), Felicity Huffman (American Crime) and Queen Latifah (Bessie).
