Abra’s “Fruit”: Watch The Video From Awful Records’ Next Breakout
Awful Records is home to a host of Atlanta rap oddballs, like Father and Slug Christ, whose brand of trap is laconic, sparse and decidedly modern in its mix of syrup and sarcasm. But tucked inside that collective is the surprisingly accessible Abra. The singer-producer specializes in bleary-eyed mini-funk that feels out of time, like the kind of thing you’d hear when you turned your boombox down low after your parents put you to bed.
Her album Rose was one of the year’s most impressive releases (I’ll have more to say about it later this week), and now its slithering track “Fruit” gets a slinky video.
