Bonnie McKee Interview
Bonnie McKee talks starting over, her 'Bombastic' EP and songwriting stories.

Bonnie McKee got together with a group of famous friends to film an impromptu variety special. Her California Winter Extravaganza spreads Christmas cheer by the bucket with festive performances, funny interviews and a cooking segment. (I’m definitely serving the diva’s penis-shaped tortilla snowflakes at my Christmas party!) It’s a feel-good affair that not only showcases the singer/songwriter’s versatility as an entertainer, but also shines a light on other (mostly) independent pop acts.

Bon Bon kicks off the show with dazzling poolside rendition of 2014 seasonal song “California Winter,” before introducing Ferras and Sarah Hudson. They perform a gorgeous original track called “Twilight,” which needs to be released sooner rather than later. Next up is Eden xo with a camp take on “Santa Baby” and Karmin with a jazzy version of “Jingle Bells.” Paper Pilots then perform “Christmas (Baby Please Come Home).” The woman behind most of your favorite pop anthems returns for a beautiful cover of “Hallelujah” (she’s ably assisted by violinist Lindsey Stirling), while Todrick Hall winds it up with “The Christmas Song.”

Watch Bonnie’s fabulous California Winter Extravaganza in full up top. If you’re thirsty for more McKee, revisit the magic of “Bombastic” below.
