Beyoncé & Rihanna Reportedly In Talks To Join Coldplay At Super Bowl Halftime Show

UPDATE: According to Entertainment Tonight, Beyonce and Bruno Mars are confirmed to hit the stage during Coldplay’s halftime performance.

Sure, a Coldplay Super Bowl Halftime Show in 2016 seems a little out-of-step with the pop landscape — it would’ve made sense in, say, 2005 or 2008…even 2011. But the Super Bowl 50 billing was more palatable due to the immediate assumption that Beyoncé would show up as a surprise guest, since she’s on two tracks on their latest album A Head Full Of Dreams. And now The Daily Mirror reports that Coldplay is indeed in talks with Bey as well as Rihanna to get them to join the February 7 performance.

“Chris and his band know they’re not typically as showy as recent performers like Katy Perry and Madonna with all the dancers and, while they love a light show, they still want to bring a few surprises out,” a Super Bowl “insider” told the paper. “Beyoncé and Rihanna are both keen to join in the high-profile ceremony and will add just the spark needed to make it an amazing and unforgettable show.”

Rihanna, of course, was on the band’s 2011 track “Princess Of China,” which she has performed with them before. And with 12 minutes to fill, there’s certainly room for both divas. Who knows what Rih’s ANTI schedule will be looking like by the time the Super Bowl rolls around, but maybe by then she’d even be able to throw some new material into the show.
