We highlight the best Alt-Pop LPs of the year, from Grimes to SOPHIE.

Kendrick Lamar has released one last short film to close out an already epic year.

“God Is Gangsta” is two To Pimp A Butterfly music videos featured in one seven-minute clip: The first is a literal depiction of “u,” perhaps the album’s most brutal moment, where the Compton rapper sobs through blaming himself for absolutely everything wrong in his world; his face is tear-streaked, while the table is also slick from the alcohol he’s spilled in between glugs. The second is “For Sale?” and alternates between showing Kendrick being baptized, yet another example of his radical Christianity, and wandering through a room of topless women, though his grimace showing how he would rather be anywhere else.

Music videos like these, among other things, are why Kendrick proved to be one of 2015’s most compelling figures in music. Watch “God Is Gangsta” below.
