Birdy is known for her gloomy covers (worldwide smash “Skinny Love”) and somber ballads (The Fault In Our Stars soundtrack highlight “Not About Angels”), so it comes as something of a surprise that her new single is positively upbeat. Produced by Steve Mac (Demi Lovato’s “Kingdom Come” and Selena Gomez’s “Survivors”), “Keeping Your Head Up” is a boisterous pop anthem with an instantly hummable chorus.

“I hope the song is inspiring, it’s meant to feel powerful and uplifting,” the 19-year-old says of the track. “It’s about finding a light in the dark, having the strength to hold on to it and overcome the times when we feel completely lost.” “Keeping Your Head Up” is the first taste of Birdy’s third LP (due Spring 2016). She recently scored a belated top 10 hit in the UK when 2013 single “Wings” was featured in an insurance commercial. Her latest should scale the same chart heights without the sync. Listen below.
