2016 Grammy Nominations
Kendrick Lamar, Taylor Swift and The Weeknd lead the 2016 Grammy nominations.

Last week, we kicked off the New Year by running through 20 of the Most Anticipated Pop Records of 2016, asking Idolator readers to vote for their favorite act set to deliver this year between candidates like Rihanna, Kanye West and Beyonce. The results are in, and we have a winner…(cue the drumroll and glitter!)

It is the Princess of Pop herself — Ms. Britney Spears!

The starlet dominated the poll with 171,515 votes, followed by Lady Gaga‘s LG5 with 44,248 votes. Christina Aguilera made it to third place with 19,443 clicks, while the navy showed their undying dedication as Rihanna‘s ANTI received 5,191 votes. Rounding out the Top 5 is Queen Beyonce trailing close behind with 5,143 clicks.

Britney’s as-yet-untitled B9 is still up in the air when it comes to a set release date or collaborators, but her fans showed their support in the comment section. View all of the poll results and some reader highlights for all the artists below!

Michil Zhirkov: I’m definitely excited for Xtina’s English & Spanish albums. Can’t wait to see how she’s gonna kill it. She deserves to be on top of a pop music industry in 2016. WHO OWNS THE THRONE?! XTINA DOES!!!

Angelo: I need the new music from pop best voice ever, the one & only Miss Christina Aguilera. I’m very excited for her, and her new era, new style and new reinvention. No matter sales, or hate, only matter her amazing and incomparable voice, her lyrics and her passion.

CA_Dreamin: Interesting pole. There’s a few artists I like on here, but i’m not feeling most of these newer artists. I’ll be yawning when Ariana Grande, Zayn shouldn’t have left that boy band, and Nick Jonas release new material. However, there are some really big ones i’m excited about. I can’t wait to hear what Kanye, Beyonce, and Frank Ocean have up their sleeves, and i’m beyond excited (for one more chance) for Christina Aguilera to release something that actually resonates. Katy Perry’s album should be interesting too though, if she leaves her current recipes behind, as should Lady GaGa’s, especially after her renaissance as an artist this past year.

However, out of everyone on the list, the one i’m still most excited to hear is Britney. I know, it sounds typical. At 29, i’m really feeling my age when it comes to these newer “stars”, but it’s still undeniable that Britney Spears is one of the world’s most Iconic pop stars of all time. She’s always been a ground breaker, and She’s absolutely torn up the stage with a re-invigorated energy in Vegas this past fall. It actually looks like she’s enjoying being the iconic Britney Spears, once again. 2013’s ‘Britney Jean’ was an over-indulgent (on Will.I.Am’s part) mess, for the most part. I can’t wait to see IF she can break the trends and release something truly iconic once again.

Charlie: I’m excited for a lot of albums this year, particularly for #LG5 and #B9, but I decided to vote for Katy Perry because she is at a very interesting place in her career. After doing what she needed to do by following up “Teenage Dream” with “Prism,” I feel like she is legitimately going to change up her sound/look by dropping her candy-colored aesthetic and start on a reinvention of sorts. I like that she’s taking her time and (hopefully) working on quality material. I’m very curious to see what she does next.

Matt Miyagi: I voted for Zayn Malik just because I’m interested in what type of music he is going to do. I think he had the best voice in One Direction so it will be interesting to see if he can have success as a solo artist!! My second choice would be Britney Spears because I feel like Brit is going to do something different to try and get herself back on top of the Pop industry and third would have to be Ariana Grande because I love her voice and I cannot wait to see what she is coming out with next!
