Perhaps Clay Aiken doomed American Idol‘s Season 15 premiere when he dissed judges Jennifer Lopez, Harry Connick Jr. and Keith Urban by tweeting that he’s “watched root canals more entertaining”? Whatever the case may be, the show certainly didn’t collect on any possible nostalgia factor with viewers, as it scrounged up the worst ratings for a premiere episode since it hit the air in 2002.

According to Entertainment Weekly, Idol‘s very last return to television delivered 10.9 million viewers and a 2.9 rating among adults 18–49 on Wednesday (January 6) night, which was down 9 percent from 2015’s all-time-low premiere. However, the publication does point out that despite the dip in ratings, the show won the night in its time slot.

Meanwhile, here’s one for you: Quick — name the winner of American Idol from last year! Or the winner from 2014’s season! Anyone? Going, going…
