Francesco Yates landed a global smash in late 2015 as the voice of Robin Schulz’s “Sugar.” A reworking of Baby Bash and Frankie J’s classic 2003 hit “Suga Suga,” the catchy dance anthem went top 10 in 15 countries (and counting) and just debuted on the Billboard Hot 100 at number 87. The Canadian singer/songwriter now delivers an acoustic version of the hit, which sounds just as good on a guitar.

“Sugar is a feel-good song that really makes people come alive,” the 20-year-old explains. “Lyrically, our version of the song is about the allure of a woman and becoming infatuated with everything about her. It’s almost that love sick feeling you have when you first meet someone, and can’t seem to get enough of them.” He first experimented with an acoustic interpretation of “Sugar” before a music festival.

“I was learning the song in my basement on guitar before heading to play it live for the first time with Robin Schulz at Electric Zoo in New York and decided to record an acoustic version of it,” Francesco reveals. “It’s the raw version of the song, but still just as sweet.” We’re excited to premiere it below.
