Chicago-based newcomer Eryn Allen Kane has collaborated with Prince on “Baltimore” and Chance The Rapper on The Social Experiment‘s Surf. And her explosive new song “How Many Times” shows exactly why.

Kane has the kind of voice that can blow your hair back. For this slow-burner, she balances empathy and frustration for a protest song about America’s cycle of violence, and the final crescendo is staggering. Adele‘s not the only one out here belting out AutoTune-free realness.

“How Many Times” is off Eryn Allen Kane’s sophomore EP release, Aviary: Act II, out February 2. Hear it below.
