Grace Nails “You Don’t Own Me” On ‘The Late Show With Stephen Colbert’
You don’t often see a legendary producer introduce an act on late night television, but that’s exactly what happened before Grace’s performance on The Late Show With Stephen Colbert last night (January 18). Quincy Jones took the mic and proudly boasted about the international success of the Australian singer’s version of Lesley Gore’s “You Don’t Own Me” (a track he first produced in 1963). He then warned that US chart domination is next.
And if the teenager’s excellent rendition is any indication, Quincy could be well right. Backed by a full band (complete with string section) and a trio of backing singers, Grace showed off the staggering range of her pipes. There was even a whistle note at the end that would have made Mariah Carey weep! The newcomer dropped her debut EP Memo in May last year. She’s the younger sister of fellow rising pop star Conrad Sewell.
