New Find: Klangstof Makes A Great First Impression With “Hostage”

Klangstof comes out swinging with “Hostage.” Premiering on Zane Lowe’s Beats 1 show earlier today (January 19), the Amsterdam-based singer/producer’s debut single is multi-layered gem that falls somewhere between early Radiohead — he cite’s the band’s seminal album Ok Computer as a major influence — and the downtempo electronica of Flume. While the soundscape is impressively vast, the lyrics (as sparse as they are) and tone are decidedly intimate.

Koen van de Wardt (his real name) is the latest addition to Mind Of A Genius’ growing roster. Other acts on the label include ZHU, Gallant and THEY, so he’s in great company. Klangstof taught himself to play guitar and produce music at age 14. He eventually joined one of Holland’s biggest bands, Moss, before deciding to branch out on his own. Listen to his strangely nostalgic debut below.
