Now and only now can Adele‘s pop dominance be deemed official and true. For “Hello” has broken the record for fastest video to reach 1 billion views on YouTube, a mark previously held by PSY‘s “Gangnam Style,” which was also the first video to hit a billion plays in late 2012.

On Thursday (January 21), “Hello” crossed the billion mark after a mere 87 days. It took “Gangnam Style” almost twice that with 158 days, according to Billboard. “Hello” becomes the 17th video on YouTube to reach a billion, a roster that includes music videos like Major Lazer‘s “Lean On” and LMFAO‘s “Party Rock.”

Adele breaking PSY’s record is the greatest thing that could’ve happened to PSY since he broke the billion-view barrier, because we’re now talking about PSY for the first time since, what, mid-2013? (Ignore this.)

Such is the power of Adele — merely getting destroyed by her boosts one’s relevance. So, hello, “Hello.” Goodbye, “Gangnam Style.”
