Rihanna’s “Work” might have polarized fans and critics, but that didn’t stop the Drake collaboration reaching number one on iTunes in 87 countries or conquering the airwaves. To be specific, the mumbled anthem was the most-heard song on radio yesterday (January 27). It had a whopping first-day audience impression of 23.4 million, derived from 2,300+ spins. RiRi’s latest found love on pop, rhythmic and urban radio formats — debuting at 38, 35 and 41 respectively.

However, as with Rihanna’s entire ANTI era, there’s a catch. Those numbers were boosted by a first-day deal with iHeartMedia and CBS radio stations, which resulted in “Work” getting hourly spins. It will be interesting to see how the song fares when that ends. Rih’s 8th LP arrived yesterday in the most confusing manner possible. Originally thought to have leaked, the album was instead given away for free by Tidal. A physical release is due on February 5.
