Jessie J Says She’s “Celebrated As One Of The Greatest Singers” In America

Jessie J is a talented singer. She’s also weirdly inescapable in the US — for her latest trick, she was injected into Fox’s Grease: Live special, after performing in Times Sqaure on New Year’s Eve — and that part of it rubs certain pop fans the wrong way, since it can feel like she hasn’t earned all this high profile positioning.

But Jessie J thinks her standing in the US is obvious. In a new interview with Women’s Health, she compared her perceived lack of recognition in her native UK to her reception Stateside. “It makes me sad,” she told the mag, according to NME. “I’ve done the Grammys, the VMAs… my profile in America is that I’m kind of celebrated as one of the greatest singers and I love it.”

Yes, she was at the VMAs…in a walking boot and crutches which turned people into living, breathing cry emoji! This is befuddling. It feels like the Jessie J supply:demand ratio is wildly imbalanced and she’s just handled by some team of PR magicians. What is going on here?

Am I wrong, or is she actually one of the most beloved pop voices in America? Sound off in the comments.
