Last night’s halftime show at Super Bowl 50 was filled with plenty of all-star moments thanks to Coldplay, Beyonce and Bruno Mars! But there was one highlight in particular that made an historical impact.

For her halftime segment, Beyonce decided to pay homage to the Black Panthers by having her backup dancers dressed in all black with the berets and ‘fros to match (the singer herself looked like an incarnate of Michael Jackson at the 1993 Super Bowl).

After the show, the dancers and Beyonce’s mother Tina Knowles posed backstage with their fists proudly raised in the air. The singer’s decision to honor the Black Panthers was a special moment, as February is Black History Month and the political organization will be celebrating their 50th anniversary this October. It comes right after the release of her unapologetic pro-Black “Formation” video.

Bringing the #BlackLivesMatter movement to a wider mainstream audience was striking, powerful and very welcomed. View some of Beyonce’s Instagram moments below, and click here to view the rest!
