Clairity’s Grand Cover Of Coldplay’s “Don’t Panic” Used In ‘X-Men: Apocalypse’ Trailer

For the past five years or so, a favorite tactic of movie and TV trailers has been the usage of slowed-down, dramatized cover songs to give the proceedings a sense of familiar grandeur. The latest song to get the baroque dirge treatment for a movie is “Don’t Panic,” the first track off Coldplay‘s first album. It was covered by Clairity, one of our 20 artists to watch this year, and her rendition appeared in the X-Men: Apocalypse trailer that aired during Super Bowl 50 last night (February 7).

The original is blown out into a symphonic, slo-mo swell, and while it’s not the first time this sort of thing has been done, Clairity’s cover is more cinematic and moving than most trailer fodder.

Hear the full cover and see how it holds up to all the action in the X-Men teaser below.
