Tinashe set tongues wagging this morning (February 10) when a screen-grab of a group chat with fans surfaced online. When asked about the delay of sophomore LP Joyride, the 23-year-old replied: “Idk they’re focused on Zany lmao that’s the real tea.” Of course, she’s referring to Zayn Malik, who just landed at number one on the Billboard Hot 100 with debut single “Pillowtalk.” It isn’t the first time the “2 On” diva has expressed dissatisfaction with RCA Records.

The Complex cover girl previously admitted to releasing buzz track “Party Favors” without permission. “I basically leaked the song,” she told Spin. “I wasn’t supposed to put it out. But I knew if I didn’t just put something out, I ran the risk of continuing to push back my singles and my whole process. I’ve got the songs, I need to put them out, I need people to hear them. I was just like, ‘Fuck it. I’m putting it on SoundCloud.’ So that’s what I did, and then they had to follow up.”

While Tinashe’s Joyride campaign has been a complete mess thus far (underperforming/underwhelming lead single, random buzz tracks without context and an unfortunate leak), the rising R&B diva has enough buzz and fan support to turn things around. That is, if she can straighten out her beef with RCA.
