UPDATE: The full song has premiered. Listen here.

With the release of new Pet Shop Boys album Super on the horizon (it’s out April 1), the pair have finally unveiled the details of lead single “The Pop Kids.” The song follows buzz track “Inner Sanctum,” and will be available on iTunes on February 16 to those who’ve pre-ordered Super. In typical Pet Shop Boys fashion, there is also a proper digital bundle and CD single release scheduled for March 18 — both of which feature remixes and two b-sides. A vinyl 12″ release will follow later in March, and a remix of the song by Mark Kinchen will only be made available digitally, also on March 18.

The tracklist for the full single release is below:

1. The Pop Kids (radio edit) 2. In bits 3. One-hit wonder 4. The Pop Kids (PSB deep dub) 5. The Pop Kids (The full story)

According to the PSBs’ official site, “The full story” mix includes additional vocals and “an extra verse which brings the story of the Pop Kids up to the present.” The song, along with the rest of Super, was produced by Stuart Price.

In an interview posted on the duo’s site in January, Neil Tennant explained that, lyrically, “The Pop Kids” is “about a friend of mine who moved from Birmingham to go to Kings College in London to study History and he made friends with a girl there. They both loved pop music and they used to go clubbing all the time and because of that they were known as the pop kids.”

Hit up the official Pet Shop Boys site to get more details on “The Pop Kids.”
