Adele appeared on The Ellen DeGeneres Show today (February 18), and in addition to performing and getting into some of the host’s high jinks, she got candid about her “All I Ask” performance at The Grammys on Monday, which was plagued by sound issues. The star admitted she was embarrassed in the aftermath and that the following day she “cried pretty much all day.” But she was actually all smiles talking about it, even letting out a few of her trademark cackles.

“Sound check was great. Went really well. I was really excited. And then during the changeover, the microphones fell onto the piano strings which is what the guitar noise was,” she explained. “Some people thought it was Justin Bieber rehearsing, but it wasn’t him. We’re on great terms. And then it kind of put the whole thing off really.”

“I wanted to turn, I knew what it was because in rehearsal on Saturday they were like we’re going to double mic the piano just in case one doesn’t work. And I knew where the mic was and I wanted to turn around and lift it up, but I froze. But I actually felt like it went well.”

She also masterfully deflected past and future criticisms of her live pitch, saying, “I’m always a bit pitchy anyway. I am, it’s emotion.” The singer was disappointed with the performance, but revealed all was well after she treated herself to a burger and a beer afterwards.

And just to tie up all the loose ends, Adele redeemed herself with another “All I Ask” performance on the show. Watch it below, along with “When We Were Young” and a pretty hilarious prank segment she did at a Jamba Juice.
