Tuesday (February 23) night, Celine Dion performed at her first Las Vegas show since both her husband René Angélil and brother Daniel Dion died within days of each other in January. During a break in singing during the show, Celine paid a loving tribute to her late better half while fighting back tears.

“Through my life, I only had highs from my husband, who sat out here night after night,” Dion said on stage at The Colosseum. “People thought that I was looking at him, actually, but…I didn’t need to, because every time I closed my eyes, I felt René on stage with me.”

Later, during a performance of her hit cover of Eric Carmen‘s 1975 single “All By Myself,” Celine broke down in tears on stage and was unable to finish singing. It didn’t matter — the audience was on their feet, applauding the singer vigorously.
