Fans of of singer Kesha who are part of the #FreeKesha movement staged a protest outside Sony’s Manhattan headquarters on Friday (February 26) morning. Organizer Michael Eisele (@KeshaTODAY) led other loyal supporters of pop singer Kesha in holding up signs (some of which included the movement’s latest slogan: Drop Luke To Free Kesha), singing hits like “We R Who We R” and speaking to the press.

Kesha is currently gridlocked in a legal battle with her producer, Dr. Luke (aka Lukasz Gottwald). Last week a court ruling came down from New York Supreme Court Justice Shirley Kornreich denying a preliminary injunction Kesha had been asking for to begin recording music outside of the company owned by Luke, her alleged physical and emotional abuser. Luke’s label Kemosabe Records is a joint venture with Sony, and Kesha still owes Kemosabe four more albums, per her contract.

“Today we’re here to support Kesha, hoping that Sony does the right thing and frees her completely from having to work with Dr. Luke,” Artie Davis, a 24-year-old New Yorker, told Idolator during Friday’s protest. “I’ve been a Kesha fan since about 2009. I’m excited to hear her back on the radio [and for her to be able] to work again in a safe environment.”

Davis was joined at the rally by his friend Sean Flynn (@seanzolanski), 21, from New Jersey. “I’m hoping that they free her,” Flynn said. “They’re talking about it like she’s a stock portfolio, like she’s an investment. She’s a human being who deserves respect and deserves to work in an environment where she feels safe, and it’s not here.”

“I want Kesha to be happy,” Shameena, a teenager from Queens, told us. Emphasizing the importance of being present for this latest #FreeKesha protest, she then said, “I’m missing school for this!”
