Kelly Clarkson's 'Piece By Piece': Album Review
Find about what we had to say about Kelly Clarkson's new album 'Piece By Piece.'

Kelly Clarkson delivered the antidote for every stale, soulless TV performance you’ve had to sit through this year with a heartfelt, tear-soaked rendition of “Piece By Piece” on American Idol last night (February 26). The 33-year-old left the audience and judges sobbing (someone give Keith Urban a hug) as she broke down mid-way through the emotional ballad, which details her dysfunctional relationship with her father and promise not to repeat his mistakes.

The performance obviously struck a chord with viewers and “Piece By Piece,” a sequel to 2004 hit “Because Of You,” immediately gained traction on iTunes — soaring all the way to number 1. (Kelly’s similarly-titled 7th LP is currently sitting at number 3). It’s particularly impressive given that the song was completely ignored when it was released in November, failing to dent the Billboard Hot 100 at all. Perhaps it’s time for another promo push?

“What an emotional night,” the “Heartbeat Song” hitmaker tweeted after the performance. “Thanks @AmericanIdol for such a beautiful beginning & a perfect ending.” Oh, and she had a special message for Keith. “Sorry for talking so much and crying ha :) #hormones Thanks for letting me share tonight with y’all! It was a blessing!” Watch the inaugural American Idol winner inject a little humanity back into the pop world up top.
