Sam Smith Hated His Oscars Performance

Sam Smith‘s Academy Awards morning-after isn’t exactly going as you’d expect. He performed at last night’s Oscars and won Best Original Song for his James Bond theme “Writing’s On The Wall,” but the only thing everyone is talking about is his acceptance speech, which was well-intentioned but sort of incorrectly implied he was the first openly gay male to win an Academy Award. And now Smith is distracting from the victory even more by pointing out that he hated his own Oscars performance.

“It was the worst moment of my life,” he told the BBC after the show. “Singing was horrible. I hated every minute.” Well, at least he can let that marinate during his nice, long hiatus.

Revisit his performance below to see if he’s exaggerating.
