Sam Smith Hated His Oscars Performance
Sam Smith's morning after the Academy Awards isn't exactly going as you'd expect.

As 50 victims of sexual assault joined Lady Gaga on stage during her Academy Awards performance of “Til It Happens To You,” Kesha — an artist claiming to have endured a decade of sexual and verbal abuse from producer Dr. Luke — praised Gaga’s show of support.

“thank u @ladygaga and VP @JoeBiden for bringing attention to sexual assault at the Oscars,” Kesha said on Twitter. “it hit very close to my heart for obvious reasons.”

Vice President Joe Biden had introduced Lady Gaga at the awards show to call for accountability regarding sexual assault cases — “to intervene when consent has not or cannot be given.” Meanwhile, Gaga co-wrote and performed “Til It Happens To You” for The Hunting Ground, a documentary about rape on campuses and the enduring culture that forces its victims to remain silent.

Kesha has made headlines recently for speaking up. On February 19, she was denied an injunction that would end her contract with Dr. Luke’s Sony subsidiary Kemosabe Records. In light of this decision, fellow pop superstars and fans alike — including Lady Gaga herself — have come to her defense, using #FreeKesha as a rallying cry.
