The Beyhive has swarmed Amber Rose for a comment she made about Beyoncé.

Amber Rose was explaining why she defended Kim Kardashian and her nude selfie. She even asked Kim to participate in a future SlutWalk, after leading the same protest march in Los Angeles last fall and speaking out against slut-shaming in general.

“They come at me and Kim so hard because I was a stripper and she had a sex tape,” Amber Rose said to The Daily Beast. “So if we could sing, it would be OK if we were on stage half-naked. We all love Beyoncé, but she’s on stage half-naked and twerking all the time, yet people say, oh, she has talent so she’s able to do that.”

Amber Rose’s point makes some sense. As Kim wrote in her own International Women’s Day essay, people still define her by the sex tape she filmed 13 years ago, no matter how much business savvy she has shown since. Unfortunately, the Beyhive interpreted Amber’s comment as a diss and flooded her Instagram comments with 🐝 emojis — on posts where women talk about how she empowers them.

It doesn’t help that, actually, Beyoncé does get slut-shamed. Fox News commentator Bill O’Reilly has frequently criticized her for acting sexy in videos, to where he tries to place blame on her for teen pregnancies and the socioeconomic woes of black Americans. “She is a terrific dancer – without the explicit moves best left for the privacy of her bedroom,” Mike Huckabee, onetime Republican presidential nominee, actually wrote in his book God, Guns, Grits And Gravy.

Amber Rose has since clarified her comments, mainly to tell the BeyHive that she is a card-carrying member, too. See her tweets below.
