It’s been over a year since Adam Lambert last appeared on American Idol — albeit as a guest judge — and seven years since he was a contestant on the show. But on last night’s (March 17) episode, the 34-year-old crooner proved that you can go home again by hitting the stage and performing his brand new single “Welcome To The Show.” He was joined by his duet partner on the song, Swedish pop star Laleh, for a pitch-perfect rendition of their booming new anthem.

And given that this was a homecoming of sorts for Adam, he treated the audience to his version of Gary Jules‘ arrangement of Tears For Fears‘ classic ’80s hit “Mad World” (got all that?), which Lambert famously brought the Idol house down with during Season 8 back in 2009.

Watch Adam and Laleh do “Welcome To The Show” above, then catch “Mad World” below.
