Whissell’s “Mine” Video Is A Stylish Affair: Idolator Premiere
Whissell explored swamp-pop to memorable effect on debut single “Get Free.” The bluesy anthem introduced us to the Florida singer/songwriter’s southern sensibility and deep, whiskey-drenched vocals — two qualities that shine through on soulful ballad “Mine.” There’s a timelessness and honesty to unashamedly sentimental torch song, and that is beautifully conveyed in the video, which takes a less-is-more approach.
“I think there’s something to be said for putting musicians in a room together and letting them do what they do best,” Whissell says of the stylish black-and-white clip. “This is me in my element, no ‘bells and whistles’ just a voice and the music. At the end of the day that’s what it’s all about.” Watch the newcomer cast a spell in the simple-yet-sophisticated video up top.
