The 27th Annual GLAAD Media Awards was full of unexpected moments. Demi Lovato teared up on stage, while Taylor Swift made a surprise appearance to honor a friend.

Demi didn’t have a speech prepared when pal Nick Jonas presented her with the Vanguard Award. She immediately made that clear. “I know you all love Nick Jonas. But I actually have a bigger dick than he does. And a huge set of balls,” she said. Still, she remembered those who taught her to be accepting in conservative Texas. She thanked family, friends and Shane Bitney Crone, the subject of the 2013 documentary Bridegroom.

Meanwhile, Orange is the New Black actress Ruby Rose was shocked to see her friend present her with the Stephen F. Kolzak Award. “Tonight I’m here to honor someone who, through her words and actions, proves that she is a force of nature,” Taylor said. “She tells the world that no one can judge us and no one can stop us.”

The 27th Annual GLAAD Media Awards airs April 4, 10 p.m. EST, on Logo. Watch highlights from Demi Lovato and Taylor Swift’s speeches below.
