Maybe you’re familiar with French dance producer Breakbot. Maybe you aren’t. No matter, his latest song “My Toy” is the type of thing that needs to enter the pop consciousness. Here, the Ed Banger act channels the breezy, cheesy disco of R.A.M., and in the Pharrell role is British DJ/singer Yasmin, who gives off some serious Carly Rae Jepsen bubblegum vibes. That covers basically every item on the infectious retro-pop checklist.
The visual, directed by French collective AB/CD/CD, is just as arresting, following a funny/sexy/creepy sort of Ex Machina storyline involving a woman designing the ideal robotic mate.
