The Weeknd & Justin Bieber Lead Billboard Music Awards Nominees
All awards shows are unnecessary, but some awards shows are more unnecessary than others. Take the Billboard Music Awards! With suspense-filled categories like “Top Selling Song,” they award artists based on statistics and sales which are in and of themselves already a reward and a recognition…and widely known. And if you’re willing to give the BBMAs the benefit of the doubt when it comes to their utility, well, Meek Mill is somehow up for Top Rap Album despite having one of the worst years a rapper could have, and The Rolling Stones are up for Top Duo/Group despite the fact that their last album came out over a decade ago sooo.
Anyway, The Weeknd leads the pack this year with 16 nominations, including Top Artist, Album and Hot 100 Artist. Justin Bieber secured 11 nominations, including those three categories, edging out Drake and Fetty Wap‘s 10 nominations. Adele and Taylor Swift both notched eight nods. No surprises here.
