Prince's Final Show: Listen
Everyone there would tell you the exact same thing: Prince didn't seem ill that night.

Saturday Night Live‘s 40th anniversary party at New York’s Plaza Hotel was legendary. Paul McCartney  and Taylor Swift jammed together. So did Debbie HarryMiley Cyrus and Ariana Grande. But the night ended in a bang when Prince took the stage to perform “Let’s Go Crazy” past 4 a.m.

SNL showed never-before-seen footage of that performance during its April 24 Prince tribute episode. You don’t see Dave Chappelle telling host Jimmy Fallon that Prince was there. You don’t see Jimmy calling Prince up to the stage: “Prince, if you’re in the room, I dare you to come up and sing with us.” But you do see Chris Rock, Maya Rudolph and Jimmy, starstruck, as they sang backing vocals.

The tribute episode also showed all the times Prince was musical guest, from 1981 onward. These were even more examples of how electric he was as a performer.

Watch Prince perform “Let’s Go Crazy” at SNL‘s 40th anniversary performance up top. Below, see Jimmy Fallon tell the story of how that came to be.
