LA duo Cosmos & Creature deliver a haunting cover of Iggy Azalea's "Team."

Brandyn Burnette has been generating serious buzz with side-project Cosmos & Creature (they recently dropped a viral cover of Iggy Azalea’s “Team”), but he hasn’t pressed pause on his solo career. The 25-year-old is hard at work on a new EP and, if soulful break-up anthem “Underneath” is any indication, it’s shaping up to be quite the calling card. “I feel different underneath, quietly grows the distance in-between,” the newcomer sings over mournful synths. “I’ve tried to stop it but it’s pushing to the surface now and the water keeps rising, but we’re only going further down.”

It’s emotionally gripping and dreamily produced by Chicago outfit Win + Woo. “[They] played a DJ set in LA and we decided to link up before the show,” Brandyn explains. “I played them an idea I was working on for my sophomore EP, State I’m In, and it was one of those spur of the moment decisions for us to collaborate. They were feeling the piano chords in the song, so I let them take the stems back to Chicago and in a few days they sent me their version.”

“The original is a lot more stripped and builds organically, so they brought a nice current feel to it. I really love their clean and soulful sound, so it really just was a cohesive meeting of minds.” The producers are equally enthusiastic about the collaboration. “Brandyn had sent us his version of the song, which had so much soul in it,” Win + Woo remember. “We immediately were inspired and ran with it to match his intensity to create a perfect pairing.” We’re excited to premiere the track below.
