Less than seven days after his death, Entertainment Weekly has whipped together a tribute issue to the late, great Prince. Producer and The Time member Jimmy Jam, singer-percussionist Sheila E., longtime Warner Bros. Records exec Lenny Waronker and New Girl showrunner Liz Meriwether are all said to have taken part in sharing stories about the musician.

“He’d come to rehearsal, work us, go work his band, then he’d go to his studio all night and record,” Jimmy Jam, whose real name is James Harris III, tells EW. “Then the next night he’d come to rehearsal with a tape in his hand and he’d say, ‘This is what I did last night.’ And it’d be something like ‘1999’ and you’re like, ‘Who does this?’”

The new issue of Entertainment Weekly hits newsstands on Friday (April 29).
