Kesha & Zedd’s “True Colors” Surfaces: Listen

Kesha‘s first new material in about three years has finally arrived with “True Colors.” OK, so it’s not her song it’s Zedd’s, and it’s not new, but an update of Zedd’s 2015 song from his album of the same name (with uncredited vocals from Rock Mafia‘s Tim James). But we’ll take what we can get when it comes to getting Kesha out of pop purgatory.

She first performed the new version of “True Colors” during a surprise cameo at the DJ/producer’s Weekend 1 Coachella set. And now the studio version has surfaced, a day before its official release. This is the first time Kesha’s been on a single since 2013’s hit Pitbull collab “Timber,” due to her sexual abuse/contract lawsuit against Dr. Luke, which has effectively barred her from recording outside her Kemosabe deal. And she sounds like she’s unleashing three years of pent-up frustration here as she howls “I won’t apologize / for the fire in my eyes / Let me show you my / my true colors / It ain’t your rainbow.”

Hear it below.

As for how this release came about? Zedd explained on Twitter (and Dr. Luke responded):
