Kesha Has Replaced Her Lawyer, Mark Geragos, In Dr. Luke Case

Mark Geragos, the high-profile attorney whose client list has included Michael Jackson, Winona Ryder and Chris Brown, has been dismissed by Kesha following a number of setbacks in her legal battle with producer Dr. Luke, according to reports. Per Pitchfork, Nashville-based attorneys Alex Little, Susan Neal Dickerson and Mandy Strickland Floyd first filed on April 27 to represent Kesha in New York, along with Geragos and Daniel Petrocelli. This past Monday (May 2), Petrocelli’s firm O’Melveny & Myers took over from Geragos’s firm entirely in representing Kesha in New York and California, as shown by online court records.

Last week, Pebe Sebert, Kesha’s mother, dropped several of her own counterclaims against Dr. Luke. Her lawyer, Alex Little, shared a statement that read, “The litigation with Dr. Luke has been a nightmare for Mrs. Sebert and her family. She has decided to move on and find peace and forgiveness in her heart rather than dwelling in the cancerous past of an ongoing lawsuit with no end in sight.”

Meanwhile, Kesha has appealed a February decision by New York State Supreme Court Justice Shirley Kornreich to not grand an injunction allowing Kesha to break her contract with Luke and Sony’s joint venture, the recently-downsized Kemosabe Records.

Perhaps the most surprising development in this complicated legal entanglement is the fact that Zedd and Kesha managed to release a collaborative single last week — a re-worked version of the German producer’s 2015 song “True Colors” — outside of Kemosabe, apparently with the label’s blessing.

Next up: Courts in New York and California are to be given progress reports on the case on May 11 and May 16, respectively.
