Lauryn Hill Booed For Showing Up More Than Two Hours Late To Atlanta Concert: Watch

On May 6, Lauryn Hill performed at Atlanta’s Chastain Park Amphitheatre. Because the landmark hip-hop artist showed up more than two hours late, though, the crowd booed.

What didn’t help was that not even 40 minutes in, the venue cut the sound off because of its strict 11 p.m. curfew. “The singer continues to perform for a few minutes longer, despite the fact that the crowd’s booing is far more audible than her singing,” writes entertainment reporter Jewel Wicker in her Atlanta Journal-Constitution concert review.

Because of her tardiness, “Lauryn Hill” became a Twitter trending topic with more than 50,000 tweets. Unfortunately, people asked why the Atlanta crowd even expected her to be punctual. Lauryn remains one of hip-hop’s most important artists because ​the Fugees​and The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill. But her past few years of touring have made fans debate whether seeing her live is worth their time.

Once the sound got cut off during the Atlanta concert, a fan asked Lauryn why she was late. “My driver got lost, I can’t control it,” she said. Watch the crowd’s reaction and Lauryn’s response below.
