Meghan Trainor Not Sure If She’d Work With Dr. Luke Again, Wants More Music From Kesha

A Twitter firestorm erupted last month when Jennifer Lopez‘s new single “Ain’t Your Mama” arrived, complete with production by Dr. Luke. Many were taken aback by the notion that JLo had collaborated with the producer, who is currently embroiled in a complicated legal battle with Kesha — one that involves rape allegations.

Enter Meghan Trainor, who co-wrote the song. Last night while chatting with Andy Cohen on Watch What Happens Live, Trainor was put in the hot seat and asked what her feeling is on Dr. Luke.

“I thought it was very unfair that JLo got, just, she got a lot of hate on Twitter all day long,” Meghan said. “I felt so bad, because she had nothing to do with that. I wrote it with my good friends J. Kash and LunchMoney Lewis one night. And [Dr. Luke] is a producer on it with Cirkut.”

Cohen then asked Trainor if she would work with Dr. Luke again. “I don’t know. I think, whatever happened, I don’t know,” she replied. “And I am good friends with Kesha. We text. I’ve never met her in person. But I want her to put out new music. I think whatever happened is unfair. The whole thing is tragic. But I just want her to put out music.”

Despite Kesha’s current legal entanglement, she and Zedd managed to release a collaborative single two weeks ago — a re-worked version of the Zedd’s 2015 song “True Colors” — outside of Dr. Luke and Sony’s Kemosabe imprint, apparently with the label’s blessing.

Meghan Trainor’s new album Thank You is out this Friday (May 13).
