Great Danes And Kimbra’s “Where The Down Bit Starts” Video: Premiere

Berlin-based duo Great Danes released a self-titled, five-track EP in February that walks a fine line between folk and pop, and pulls the best bits from each. A great example: The sweeping “Where The Down Bit Starts,” which finds Chester Travis doing a delicate vocal dance with featured singer Kimbra. The pair trade their lines as the song swells to its climax, and when it’s over, you can’t help wishing there were at least two more minutes left — or at least an extended version we could default to.

All that said, today Idolator is premiering the animated video for “Where The Down Bit Starts,” which throws a little metaphorical sci fi into the emotional mix.

“I directed Kimbra’s ‘Goldmine’ video, and the animator of [this] video also worked on ‘Goldmine’, along with producing her ‘Love In High Places’ video,” Chester says to Idolator, explaining how he and Grammy winner Kimbra came to collaborate. “I was in New York last year and Kimbra and I started playing the song together. After I left, she recorded her parts from New York and I recorded my parts in Berlin.”
