The Weeknd & Justin Timberlake Are Plotting A Collab

Two of pop’s biggest solo male stars may be working on new music together. Justin Timberlake has revealed that he and The Weeknd are hoping to collaborate on new music, and thankfully it has nothing to do with the Trolls soundtrack.

JT spoke to BBC 1Xtra on Tuesday (May 10) and said, “Abel and I have been talking about doing a collab soon…maybe for his,” then adding that The Weeknd is “working on an album right now.” Hear it at the 6:25 mark. (During the interview, Timberlake also clarified that his recent studio sessions with Pharrell and Timbaland were unrelated to the Trolls project, which is promising.)

A collab between the two makes sense, as they’ve both been channeling Off The Wall-era Michael Jackson lately, and because JT’s 2006 hit “My Love” was certainly one of the seeds of the “PBR&B” movement that The Weeknd unofficially pioneered in 2011.

Timberlake pointing out that The Weeknd is working on an album seemingly confirms other bits of news that suggest the Canadian singer has been hunkering down for his Beauty Behind The Madness follow-up. Before this reveal, he dropped out of Rihanna‘s tour due to “upcoming projects” and just last week he shared news that he’s back in the studio with two of the producers from his breakout mixtape House Of Balloons.
