Chvrches Release New Synthy Gem “Warning Call”: Listen

Chvrches have released their new song “Warning Call,” and it’s a certified whimsy anthem.

The song is featured on the video game soundtrack of Mirror’s Edge Catalyst, a remake of the 2008 game Mirror’s Edge. The Glasgow indie-pop trio wrote the tune from the perspective of the game’s heroine Faith, and (as noted in the track’s Youtube description) it’s set to depict “her world, struggles and strength.”

And it seems that the song does just that, as frontwoman Lauren Mayberry sings of gaining new-found independence and confidence. “I need it/ So I hold on to every mistake that I made alone,” she croons over the soaring synth-laden melody. “And I don’t lie/When I say that we will never return to closing doors.”

“We were honored to be asked to contribute to the soundtrack for Mirror’s Edge Catalyst,” the band’s Iain Cook said in a statement via Pitchfork. “The sound of Chvrches’ music resonates with the minimalist sci-fi dystopia of the Mirror’s Edge world, and we feel that the song complements the drama, emotion and empowering themes of Faith’s story.”
