Today legendary pop and R&B singer Dionne Warwick announced at the Cannes Festival that a biopic based on her life, titled Dionne, is in the works. Actress and former Destiny’s Child member LeToya Luckett is slated to play Warwick in the film, which is being shopped around at Cannes for a distributor.

It’s hard to imagine the film won’t find a buyer, given its fascinating subject matter and star-filled cast. Also lined up to appear in Dionne are the following: Lady Gaga as UK singer and Warwick’s rival Cilla Black; Olympia Dukakis as Marlene Dietrich; and Danny Glover as Warwick’s father.

UPDATE: Despire Warwick herself making the announcement at Cannes today, Variety is now reporting that Lady Gaga will not appear in the film. “Lady Gaga is not attached and will not appear in the project,” her publicist told the publication. “Reports of Gaga starring in the project are false.”

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the screenplay was adapted from Warwick’s 2010 memoir My Life As I See It and the film will highlight the singer’s life and career from the years 1962 to 1968.

LeToya Luckett will also reportedly perform Warwick’s classic songs in the movie, many of which were written and produced for her by Burt Bacharach and Hal David. Cilla Black covered Warwick’s recordings “Anyone Who Had A Heart” and “Alfie” in the ’60s, and charted higher with them in her home country of England than Warwick did.

When asked at Cannes why Cilla Black would be portrayed as her nemesis in Dionne, Warwick is said by THR to have replied, “Because she stole my music!”

Get the popcorn ready.
