Meghan Trainor Talks "No" & Sophomore LP
We spoke to Meghan Trainor about her new single "No" and sophomore album.

One of the most intimate moments in Meghan Trainor‘s new album Thank You is “Kindly Calm Me Down.” She says that she wrote this ballad when she was 18 years old, when her father was dealing with lung cancer.

Believe it or not, though, Meghan almost didn’t get to sing “Kindly Calm Me Down” herself. During a Twitter Q&A, she revealed that she first pitched it to Christina Aguilera. “She loved it and she was going to cut it, but I think she had a baby or something,” Meghan says. “So it didn’t work out, but that’s okay because now it’s on my album.”

Christina has been working on two new albums. One is the Spanish-language follow-up to 2000’s Mi Reflejo; the other, the English-language follow-up to 2012’s Lotus. But she also had a cameo in Nashville and returned as a mentor to The Voice after having her second child.

Below, watch Meghan Trainor talk “Kindly Calm Me Down,” then hear the track as it appears on Thank You.
