The Drop: Anna Of The North & Astrid S
Navigate the muddy waters of New Music Friday with our weekly guide.

Anna Of The North (real name Anna Lotterud) arrived in a blaze of blog buzz in 2015 with shimmery anthem “The Dreamer.” The Norwegian newcomer backed it up with the equally exquisite “Baby” in March, cementing her status as one of synth-pop’s most exciting new talents. She drops the visual today (May 16) and it’s every bit as sleek, stylish and understated as the music she makes. Who else could sprawl face-down over furniture and still look cool?

This clip is all about setting a tone and mood. The 26-year-old uses an array of colorful back-drops and clever lighting to convey the roller coaster of emotions at play in “Baby.” (She’s seriously lovesick). There are some quirky props, cool clothes and floral imagery, but nothing takes away from the very, very good soundtrack. Fall in love with the sleepy electro-lullaby up top. Anna’s debut EP is expected to arrive later this year.
