Drake And Beyonce Block Meghan Trainor From Topping The Album Chart

It’s a third week for Drake‘s Views at the top of the Billboard 200 — plus another 239,000 album units (sales: 83,000) — while Beyonce‘s Lemonade  (128,000 units, 92,000 sales) in turn sits at #2 yet again. This causes Meghan Trainor to go in at #3 with sophomore album Thank You ((107,000 unis, 84,000 sales). Last year, the Best New Artist Grammy winner’s debut LP Title started off at #1 with 195,000 copies sold.

To date, Trainor’s lead Thank You single “No” (which she performed at last night’s Billboard Music Awards) has peaked at #3 on the Hot 100. Follow-up “Me Too” has yet to crack the chart, but that could all change once the full impact of her video streams for the song are tallied up.

While Meghan couldn’t break the barrier this time around, that leaves us to now wonder if Ariana Grande has the chops to bust up the Drake-Beyonce stronghold on the top two positions of the album chart next week. She’s currently being outsold by both Blake Shelton and Bey on iTunes and Amazon, and on Spotify it’s Drake who’s ruling with streams. Ari will likely need to pull a “Problem”-sized hit out of her hat if she wants to have her floundering Dangerous Woman era to have any lasting impact.
