Frank Ocean worked with James Blake on the Brit’s latest album, co-writing “My Willing Heart.” In addition, Blake interpolated an Ocean track on another song, and in a new interview with Rolling Stone, Blake says his entire LP was inspired by Ocean’s music. Specifically, Ocean’s new music.

“I was more of a fan of him when I heard his newer music,” he says. “It’s better. You grow, you improve, you nail a new message to the board. He’s had time to mature. It’s really cool to watch.”

“Better.” Love how he just throws that in there like he heard Channel Orange and first thought “Eh, room for improvement.” So Blake has heard the long-awaited new stuff, and so has Ocean’s producer Malay, whose recent takeaway was that “people are going to be pleasantly surprised” by it.

Thus concludes this Frank Ocean Status Update.
